Based in Shanghai and affiliated with the faculty of literature, performaing arts, media stuides, and other disciplines, the Insititue provides a flatform for scholarly and cultural exchange among distinguished Shakespeare schoars, theatrical professionals, and other artists from all over the world. As an active advocate of cross-cultural inquiry into Shakespeare’s works, the founding director of the Institute, Lingui Yang wishes to bring together interested scholars from the Shakespeare Association of China and from international circles of Shakespeareans for collaborative research and innovative performance. With the support of various international organizations, such as the International Shakespeare Association and the Shakespeare Center and Birthplace Trust, the Institute has successfully hosted Shakespeare forums and is going to co-host Shanghai Shakespeare Festival and International Conference in 2014.
